Beta terms

An early version of Buk, free, by invitation, for a small number of people. It is not finished. Things will break, look wrong, or change between one week and the next. The known issues page lists what we already know about; everything else is worth telling us about, which is the main reason you're here.

Nothing is for sale during the beta, and we won't ask you for payment details.

You keep every right to what you put in. We claim no ownership of your recipes, your photographs or the books you make, and we don't use them to train anything.

What you give us is narrow permission to run the service for you: to store your content, render it into pages and PDFs, send it to our AI provider to be tidied or transcribed when you ask, and show it to anyone you deliberately share a link with. That's the whole licence, and it ends when you delete the content.

We won't wipe your beta data.When the beta ends your account and everything in it carries over — no reset, no "thanks for testing, start again". These are family recipes; treating them as disposable test data would be the one unforgivable thing.

But there are no backups yet — keep your originals. If the server is lost, what's here is lost. Buk should sit alongside your cards and photos during the beta, not replace them. Details in the privacy notice.

Buk uses AI to read handwriting, tidy imported recipes and rewrite prose in a chosen voice. It is good, and it is not perfect. It can misread a quantity, drop a step, or lose a note in the margin.

Read the page against your original before you cook from it or print a stack of them— particularly quantities, oven temperatures and anything to do with allergies. We never rewrite ingredient amounts on purpose, but we can't promise a transcription is right, and a cookbook is something people cook from.

• Upload recipes that are yours, your family's, or that you may lawfully copy — not a scanned commercial cookbook.
• Nothing illegal, and nothing that isn't yours to share.
• Don't attack the service or try to run somebody else's bulk workload through it.
• Your invitation is for you. Ask us before passing it on — we're growing this deliberately.

No uptime guarantee. The beta runs on one small server and may be down for a deploy, a mistake, or a Tuesday. Features may change or disappear. Buk is provided as it is, without warranties, and our liability is limited to what the law allows — this is a free beta run by one person.

You can stop whenever you like, and ask us to delete everything at [email protected]. We can end the beta or close an account that's breaking the rules above — if we close the beta itself, you'll get notice and a chance to export your books first.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States.

If these terms change in a way that matters, invitees get an email. When Buk opens to the public and things go on sale, this page is replaced by full terms with payment, refund and delivery sections — none of which apply today.
